Photovoltaic Energy News

Photovoltaics is a most elegant energy source. Light shines on a crystal and produces electricity. Its as simple as that. There are no moving parts. The fuel source (sunlight) is free, abundant and widely distributed, available to every country and person in the world. At over 165,000 TW the solar resource dwarfs the world?s current power usage of 16 TW or even our projected future usage of 60 TW.

The technology employed in photovoltaic (PV) systems is well-developed and there are improvements and modifications occurring regularly, primarily in production processes. The systems are quite reliable and have been well tested in space and terrestrial applications.

PV For All: Low-Income Housing Residents Going Solar

Wed, 02 May 2012 10:43:41 CDTViewed: 116 times.
Until recently, the low-income housing community has been a tough nut for the solar industry to crack. Low-income housing developments have historically avoided going solar due to the obvious difficulties of incorporating high-cost, discretionary photovoltaic (PV) systems into affordable housing. However, a unique mix of local, utility, and federal support combined with a little financial creativity allowed a community in Colorado to demonstrate the application of PV into a low-income housing program.

Solar PV Monitoring & Solar Thermal Monitoring Ensures Optimal Renewable Energy Payback, Says Wattsure

Mon, 30 Apr 2012 11:02:34 CDTViewed: 107 times.
With recently falling feed in tariff rates affecting solar PV electricity payback, solar thermal and solar PV monitoring is becoming essential to ensure payback, says manufacturer Wattsure. Too few domestic and commercial installations understand exactly how much energy they are producing, or know soon enough when faults occur.Exeter, Devon, UK (PRWEB UK) 30 April 2012 Despite recent cuts in the

Germans Revise Solar PV Tariffs For 2012 And Set New Degression Schedule

Mon, 02 Apr 2012 08:02:00 CDTViewed: 39 times.
The dust has nearly settled on new German solar photovoltaic (solar PV) tariffs. The new tariffs, new degression schedule, and new limits on generation are all being widely reported in the trade press. I won't go over ground covered more effectively by others. See the links below for more information.

Blue Earth And Biosar Sign Agreement To Jointly Develop And Pursue Utility Scale Solar PV Projects

Thu, 29 Mar 2012 12:35:00 CDTViewed: 62 times.
Blue Earth, Inc. (OTCBB:BBLU) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Xnergy, Inc. signed an agreement with Biosar Energy SA ("Biosar") in connection with their recent collaboration to jointly develop and pursue utility scale solar PV projects in the United States. Biosar has an impressive history of successful solar PV project development in Europe as of 350MW EPC awarded contracts. Jointly collaborating on projects with BBLU through Xnergy, is expected to allow Biosar to enter the U.S. solar PV markets rapidly and efficiently. BBLU is expected to provide licenses, permitting, design and construction expertise that complements Biosar's equipment procurement and large-scale project execution expertise. The two parties have been working together on project proposals for 10 to 100 MW solar PV projects, prior to the signing of the agreement.

SolFocus Snags Mega Concentrating PV Project In Mexico

Thu, 29 Mar 2012 03:52:18 CDTViewed: 36 times.
Mexico hardly registers as a must-tackle solar market, yet it may well be where concentrating photovoltaic (CPV) technology will bloom. SolFocus said Thursday it's clinched a deal to supply its CPV equipment to a project that will be built in 50-megawatt phases and is planned to eventually reach 450 megawatts.

Solar Industry's Exponential Growth In 2011 Indicates Healthy US PV Market

Tue, 13 Mar 2012 23:05:00 CDTViewed: 117 times.
It wasn't too many years ago when the installing more than 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar PV in the U.S. in one year was a pipedream. But according to the latest U.S. Solar Market Insight Report, in 2011 the industry didn't just eek out more than 1 GW of solar: it blew that threshold away.
