Crowley Maritime Corp. has entered the business of transporting liquefied natural gas with the acquisition of Carib Energy LLC. Founded in 2011, Carib Energy, based in Florida, was the first company to receive a small-scale, 25-year LNG export license from the U.S. Department of Energy to transport LNG from the U.S. into countries covered by free trade agreements. Carib Energy now becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Crowley Petroleum Services.

Duke Energy Florida wants to collect $174.6 million next year from its customers for a proposed nuclear-power complex in Levy County and for a now-useless upgrade project at its permanently closed Crystal River nuke, according to documents filed last week with the state Public Service Commission.

Sometime this summer, the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort is expected to sprout wind turbines. It will be the first hotel in South Florida to do so, and one of the first in the U.S. The turbines are not typical, propeller-style monoliths. They are designed to look like sculpted art, with bent blades connected at both ends. The Business Journal interviewed Randy Gaines, Hilton Worldwide VP of engineering, housekeeping and laundry operations.
