There's a growing mountain of petroleum coke covering an entire city block along the Detroit River and frustrating many residents there, according to a report in the New York Times. It's a byproduct of Canada's oil sands boom, and Koch Carbon, a subsidiary of Wichita-based Koch Industries Inc., reportedly has been accumulating it at the Detroit site. Ultimately, the product will be sold overseas, where it is burned as fuel.
