U.S. Rig Count Graphs

  • The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the U.S., Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
  • The oil and gas rig count, which is the number of rigs currently online, is widely regarded as an important indicator in assessing the health of the oil industry. It can give investors and companies an idea of current demand, as well as provide clues for the immediate future.
  • U.S & Canadian rotary rig counts are updated weekly at 12:00 Central Time.
  • International rotary rig counts are updated mid-month for the preceeding month.
