Maui County is seeking a wind power contractor to design and install a turbine that would generate up to 100 kilowatts of power for a water-pumping station in Kaupakulua. The Maui News reports that the county chose wind over solar to power the pumping station because the isolated location is windy, and because the wind would continue to generate electricity after dark and during peak electricity use periods. The newspaper reports that contractors have until Nov. 2 to submit proposals to the county.
