Driven largely by the shale revolution that's reverberating through the energy industry, Houston-based Kinder Morgan Inc. is on a roll. And although he's just one month into the job, President and COO Steve Kean is strapped in for the ride. As the biggest pipeline and storage company in North America (NYSE: KMI) , Kinder Morgan has a combined enterprise value of about $115 billion, plus another $13 billion or so in projects planned.

Texas Oil and Gas Association officials expressed disappointment with the Texas Legislature this week as the sunset bill for the Texas Railroad Commission died in committee. The organization represents more than 5,000 businesses in the energy industry in Austin and made the passage of that bill its top priority for the legislative session.
