Egypt: The head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Memish said that revenue from the waterway will not fall this year from 2011's $5.2bn, Reuters has reported. Revenue rose to $446.6m in August, up 3% from July. The canal was among the most profitable entities in the country, providing a vital source of foreign currency, tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad, he noted.
