High altitude wind turbines are a creative wind power concept that provides solutions to many problems facing conventional wind turbines. These machines can produce clean electricity at low cost because of their ability to reach astonishing elevations. Theoretically we could use this idea to tap into the jet stream and other large wind currents. The concept may seem a bit extreme, but it successfully illustrates weaknesses in wind turbine design and proposes simple ways to overcome them.
