United Arab Emirates: The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co (Takreer) has awarded South Korea's Samsung Engineering a $2.47bn contract to build a petrochemical plant in the UAE, Yonhap has reported. Takreer, an affiliate of state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (Adnoc), plans to build the Carbon Black and Delayed Coker (CBDC) facility in the industrial city of Ruwais, 240 km west of Abu Dhabi city on the Arabian Gulf. Samsung will be in charge of the design, procurement and pilot operations of the facility. Work is scheduled to be completed by December 2015, with the CBDC to produce 40,000 tonnes of carbon blacks per year, and process 30,000 barrels of crude oil daily.
