Wisconsin Power & Light Co., the Madison-based utility of Alliant Energy Corp., said Friday that it is exercising its option to buy Calpine Corp.'s Riverside Energy Center in Beloit. The proposed $392 million purchase was approved in early April by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. Wisconsin Power & Light had the option to buy the 600-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant until May 31. The utility now purchases 500 megawatts of electricity from the power plant.
