A new study from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation says that Marcellus Shale natural-gas production could bring 50,000 jobs to the state. The Dunkirk-Fredonia Observer reports that DEC is expected to propose regulations for high-volume hydrofracking of gas well by early next month. Permitting for gas wells in the Marcellus Shale region has been on hold in New York since 2008, and no permits are likely to be issued until next year at the earliest.
